Relaxing in Santa Marta

Santa Marta

 April 8, 2014 – April 10, 2014

After Tayrona National Park, we returned to the nearby city of Santa Marta.  After 3 nights in a hot tent, we were looking for two things in our accommodation: air conditioning and wifi.  We found both at The Emerald Hostel, which opened only a few months before our stay and had hardly any guests.  We chose to hole up in our room to catch up on the blog and really only ventured out into the Santa Marta heat for dinner.  Highs in the 90s each day were higher than normal, according to locals.  One night during dinner we were surprised to see a policeman ride by on a Segway, an unexpected sight in Colombia.  We enjoyed breakfast both mornings on the gorgeous hostel rooftop and felt rejuvenated after our travel “break”.    emerald_hostel_rooftop

Krista also spent some time in one of the rooftop hammocks one morning.

Santa Marta is a convenient tourist hub but does not have much in the way of sights for travelers.  If you go, be sure to check out the neighboring towns and sights.
